Kelly Durkee-Erwin is a Life Member of the
Sgt. Harold O. Young VFW Auxiliary 2394 in Melrose. She joined under the
eligibility of her grandfather PFC John T. Mulhane, KIA World War II. Kelly is
a Gold Star granddaughter, a Blue Star Sister (3 times), and a Purple Heart
Family Member. She resides in Waltham with her husband Everett, son
Cameron, and parents Mary Anne and Bill Durkee. Mary Anne, Cameron and Everett are
also Auxiliary members.
Kelly has served as Dept. Chairman for Veterans and Family Support, the State President’s Special Project, Auxiliary Community Outreach, Membership, Finance, and Buddy Poppy/VFW National Home Chairman and as a member of the Dept. Bylaws & Rules and Advisory Committees.
Kelly is a state appointee to the Waltham Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners and serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. She is a member of the American Legion Post 156 in Waltham, an Auxiliary member of the MA Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans Post 45, and a member of the Blue Star Families network. She also serves on Board of the Waltham Arts Council. Kelly is employed by the Tuscaloosa Research and Education Advancement Corporation as an IPS Employment Specialist at the Boston VA Healthcare – Jamaica Plain campus assisting veterans in finding and securing employment.
In her spare time, Kelly performs with the Waltham American Legion Post 156 Band, volunteers at the JP VA Hospital, with Scouting USA Troop 248, and with the Massachusetts Military Support Foundation. She also hosts a Waltham TV show called "Kelly’s Heroes’ which focuses on getting essential information to veterans in the local Waltham area.
