   Dawn is a Life Member of the Auxiliary to Townsend VFW Post 6538, she joined under the eligibility of her father, Elvin L. Bunton, who served in the Army during Vietnam. Dawn has held her current position as Chaplain and Trustee for several years, she has also served as President, Sr, Vice, Jr. Vice, Color Bearer and assists diligently with Veterans and Family Support, Hospital and Youth Chairmanships on the local level.

  On the District Level Dawn served as President for 13 terms and was the recipient of numerous awards including District President of the Year, the Circle of Excellence and first place in Membership. She also served as Sr. Vice and Jr. Vice and currently the position of Patriotic Instructor.

   On the Department level Dawn held the position of Banner Bearer in 2017-2018 and 2022-2023. She served as the Convention Fund Co- Chairman in 2021-2023, Mentoring for Leadership Chairman in 2023-2024 and is the current Veterans and Family Support Chairman.

   On the eve of February 4th, 2019, more than 30 residents were displaced due to a devastating fire at an Apartment Complex.  Dawn was at the crisis command center the next morning where she became a lead volunteer working with FEMA, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the Townsend Ecumenical Outreach.  She continues to volunteer weekly for the TEO at the clothes closest sorting clothes and assisting customers and assists with the monthly food distribution and deliveries for the elderly. In 2021 Dawn served as the VVMF (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund) Ambassador of volunteers, bringing The Wall That Heals to Townsend, and currently working with the VVMF and its sponsors Clear Path for Veterans NE and Operation Services for the return of TWTH to Devens in July 2024.

   Dawn chose an early retirement from Verizon so she could focus on her husbands Tree Service company and enjoy their grandchildren.
